Buying tropical timber products with non-independent, false or dodgy certifications or other claims - Provides no sustainability guarantees, and in fact greenwashing of business as usual will lead to continued deforestation and confuses the consumer.
Avoiding buying tropical wood products because it undermines the economic values of the rainforests, and the forest will be converted to other land uses, like biofuels plantations, large scale agriculture, cattle ranches etc.
Do not buy ANY products claiming to be sustainable because of the material they are made from. Claiming for example that a product is sustainable because it’s made of bamboo makes no sense when the bamboo used in a product could be coming from an endangered Panda bamboo forest or from a plantation created by cutting down the original forest.
