No tropical timber should be bought from areas in no danger of deforestation

Generally timber should only be bought from countries or regions where annual local, regional or national deforestation rates are higher than 0.25%. Exceptions to this rule may apply in areas where war, civil unrest and other conditions temporarily prevents significant deforestation. Please see FAO "State of the World's Forests" http://www.fao.org/docrep/011/i0350e/i0350e00.htm for more information
